Main Ingredient - Green Philosophy

Our philosophy at Main Ingredient is to give back to the community and the world in which we live through sustainable catering solutions.

The staff and management team at Main ingredient is focused on delivering high quality catering services that feature foods that are locally grown and meet our high standards of quality. Many of our commonly grown produce items are grown at farms in the Delmarva region. All of the farms that we buy from practice responsible farming methods in the growing, harvesting, packing and shipping of their produce. Specifically, here are a few of the farms where our produce is grown and delivered to our door:

Vincent Farms – Laurel, Delaware
Vincent Farms consists of over 2,000 acres and has been farmed continuously by members of the family for five generations. The farm is operated by Ray Vincent and was started in 1912. Vincent Farms produces sweet corn, bell peppers, tomatoes and cantaloupes, to name a few.

Burch Farms – Faison, North Carolina
Burch Farms is operated by Jimmy Burch. Started 57 years ago by his grandfather, Burch Farms has grown to 5,000 acres of mixed vegetables and fresh greens. Burch Farms supplies Main Ingredient with a wide variety of organically grown vegetables.

Fred S. Chesser & Co. – Assawoman, Virginia
The Chesser farm is located on Virginia’s Eastern Shore in northern Accomack County. They provide Main Ingredient with a wide variety of greens including green and red cabbage, green and yellow squash, cucumbers, green beans and sweet potatoes.

Fifer Orchards – Wyoming, Delaware

In addition, Fifer Orchards supplies a wide variety of field greens such as asparagus, soybeans, lima beans, peas and pumpkins. Currently, the farm is operated by Curt Fifer.

At Main Ingredient, we make every effort to distribute our catered meals in the most energy efficient way possible. Further, we offer a full line of biodegradable and compostable paper products.

Our employees take pride in recycling, donating to food banks and worthy causes, and choosing eco-friendly goods whenever possible.

Lastly, Main Ingredient has contracted Washington Gas & Energy Services to supply wind power to our building here in Annapolis. WGES is the leader in producing and reselling Wind Power. Fifteen percent of the energy used at Main Ingredient is earth-friendly wind power!
